I have always considered that the vitality and dynamics of a society depend on a very important part of the will and compromise of its citizens, of the public and private institutions about the quality, improvement and the leadership of the individual, and, in short, about the future. During the years, the Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation has proven to be a correct example of this social compromise that I am referring to and which is reflected in such notorious events like the International Awards, that already count on a strong prestige.

Therefore, I would like to take advantage of this occasion to show the support and recognition, on my behalf and on behalf of my Government, with which the initiatives of our society count on, like those that the Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation represents.

The promotion of Culture – spelled this way – with a capital letter – is one of the biggest and most important achievements and commitments of the contemporary public institutions.

Culture qualifies and positions us as citizens of a surprising world, that is dynamic and numerous. This is about transferable credentials, that, in fact, only in their transfer, will Culture reach its most authentic meaning.

The institutional patronage and the other that comes from the private initiative perfectly complement each other and both are, today, inalienable for the development of any initiative. Keeping this reality in mind, the City Hall of Valladolid gives its unconditional support to the organization and granting of the International Awards “Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation 2004”, and will not hesitate to recognize those who are awarded.

We are “on the same side”•, playing “on the same team”. A substantial “pinch” of the most significant expressions of mankind – the humanism, visual arts, scenic arts, science and research, sports, literature, thought and humanities, restoration and conservation of the heritage – are our dream, our raw material, our cultured object and tribute.
